Victoria, BC – GuideStar Medical Devices (GuideStar) announces successful first clinical use of its flagship device, EpiZact. EpiZact, which was recently granted U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance, is used for aiding needle tip placement within the epidural space. EpiZact is now being used at several hospitals in the USA through an ongoing controlled market release phase. Feedback from these facilities indicates that the device is performing as intended.

“We are extremely excited to see clinical results for EpiZact. All feedback we have received indicates that EpiZact is doing a fantastic job of aiding clinicians to safely identify the epidural space,” said Mike Dolphin, GuideStar CEO. “We hope that EpiZact can be shown to be effective in reducing the accidental injury rates for patients, and look forward to seeing more clinical data.”

GuideStar will be attending the upcoming American Society for Regional Anesthesia (ASRA) Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Meeting, occurring March 21-23, 2024 in San Diego, California. GuideStar will also be attending the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP) Annual Meeting, occurring May 1-5, 2024 in Denver, Colorado.

About EpiZact
Epidurals are performed to provide anesthesia to a patient, by means of injection of medication into the epidural space. Traditionally, epidurals are performed using the “loss of resistance” technique. EpiZact is the first device developed for epidurals that is designed to stop the forward motion of the needle upon sensing a loss of resistance, providing a tactile and visual signal to the user while simultaneously stopping the needle from further advancement, potentially reducing the incidence of accidental dural puncture.
